The Old Apostolic Church is a Christian faith community with roots in the New Apostolic Church. The Old Apostolic Church is part of a branch of Christianity called Irvingism, and is separate from Protestantism. The church could be viewed as a form of Christian mysticism. The Old Apostolic Church distinguishes itself by teaching and practicing the allegorical or spiritual teachings of Biblical scripture as it pertains to the heart, mind and soul of humanity. The church is also distinguished in its Christian doctrine by the firm belief and understanding that the Kingdom of God is accessible today, being symbolic of joy, peace and righteousness within the Holy Spirit as described in Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.;. Definition of Religion – Conventional Wisdom
The definition of religion, and what connotations come to mind when we think of religion, is very critical to our beliefs and how we view cultural issues. The predominant view and certainly the politically correct view is that religious and secular issues are completely separate and together constitute all issues. With this view, the definition of religion is the belief in a God or a supernatural power that relates to human destiny.
Our family's journey in the Old Apostolic Church began when I was taken up in 1969 and was ordained as an Underdeacon in 1971. Over the years, our roles evolved significantly:
Re-ordained as an Underdeacon on July 20, 1980, serving for nearly eleven months.
Ordained to the Priest on May 31, 1981, with a focus on youth ministry.
Ordained to the Elder on March 6, 1988, overseeing youth programs and Sunday school.
Ordained to the Four Fold Office on May 27, 2007, initially serving as an Evangelist in Vereeniging and Heidelberg fields.
Transferred to the Prophet office in Meyerton in November 2008, under Apostle's guidance.
Appointed as Overseer for Meyerton fields in November 2010.
Returned to the Prophet office for Vereeniging/Meyerton fields on October 25, 2016, expanding responsibilities to include Vanderbijlpark fields in November 2018.
Granted the freedom of the City in October 2022 by the Apostle, while also serving on the Sunday School and ICT, (Information, Communications and Technology) committees.
